& mdash; A member club in London, founded in 1831, voted to allow women to join for the first time in recent weeks after its exclusion policy was examined.

According to the BBC and the Guardian, members of the garrick Club in West End of London got together on Tuesday to discuss the issue of allowing women to join the club.

According to the Guardian, nearly 1,000 members voted by 60% to 40%. On March 18, the newspaper published a list of dozens of members, including influential figures from the British establishment, which triggered a discussion on the club's male-only policy.

According to the newspaper, Charles III, the Carl Court/Getty Photo Agency, is one of the famous members, and there are dozens of legislators, famous lawyers, drama directors, producers and actors, most of whom are white people over 50 years old.

The publication of this list highlights how women continue to be excluded, leading some members to resign, while others threatened to leave if women were not accepted.

Despite the voting, it may take some time for the first woman to join: the admission process includes the nomination of existing members and discussions among Committee members, who can veto anyone deemed inappropriate.

CNN has contacted the garrick Club for comment.

Located in Covent Garden, this club is named after the famous 18th century actor and manager David garrick.

The club's website reads: "Attracted by the combination of the tradition of the 18th century literary association and the advantages of well-run catering and social clubs, the first members of garrick are a mature worldwide group, including 24 nobles, writers, actors, musicians and publishers."

The club has about 1,300 members, including a coffee room, a morning room, a card room, a billiard room, a reading room, a member computer room and a rooftop terrace, as well as 17 bedrooms, a member lounge and some private rooms that can be reserved for group activities.

It is also home to a drama library with about 1000 items.

According to the website, except those who arrive at the theater for dinner after 9: 30 pm, men must wear jackets and collared shirts in clubs and ties if they have lunch or dinner in cafes.

"Ladies can wear trousers, but not jeans," it added. "Jeans, sports shoes or sports shoes are not allowed. “

According to its website, "the Committee's initial guarantee is that' ten people beyond reproach are better to be excluded than one terrible person is accepted', which ensures that the active atmosphere of the club, which was so famous in the 19th century, will continue to inject vitality into its members in the 21st century."
